Coffin Jewelry
Before man-made glass was invented, Mother Nature formulated her own glass.
Obsidian is natural glass formed by volcanic lava that cooled too quickly. Obsidian is volcanic glass. Sharp and shiny, obsidian is different from other rocks. This volcanic glass has an almost total absence of sizable mineral crystals within the glass matrix.
The ancient hills in Oregon, called Glass Buttes, is where we legally collected 90% of the obsidian used in our creations. We have collected a dazzling variety of gem-quality obsidian, including mahogany, red, fire, flame, midnight lace, jet black, pumpkin brown, rainbow, gold sheen, silver sheen, green, snowflake and more. Some pieces have iridescent flashes of color.
Obsidian has been used as a talisman for travelers to ensure a safe journey both physically and mentally. Obsidian is also said to bring good luck and is an aid in overcoming negative emotions. Obsidian is "The Protector". It has an energy shield, which absorbs negativity and grounds energy.
The coffin jewelry is all created by hand, one piece at a time. Almost all of Bryan’s coffin jewelry is made of obsidian, but other types of natural stones can be used, such as petrified wood. Each coffin gem is an original. They are not mass produced, or faceted with machines.
